Job summary

Brown University is seeking a Senior Library Expert - Cataloging and Discovery - Metadata Management Specialist to support creation, integration, and remediation of MARC metadata, enhancing discoverability across the library's collections and discovery systems.

The role includes performing complex cataloging tasks, collaborating with staff, evaluating vendor metadata, and developing data automation to streamline workflows. A strong background in MARC 21, RDA, and LC classification is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years metadata management experience.
• Knowledge of cataloging standards.
• Experience using MARC and related tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Create, enhance, and remediate MARC metadata at scale.
• Evaluate and integrate vendor metadata records.
• Identify and resolve metadata issues.
• Generate analytics reports for cleanup projects.
• Develop data automation routines to improve workflows.
• Train colleagues on metadata management.
• Research bibliographic content and describe materials.
• Apply MARC21, RDA, LCSH and LC classifications.
• Collaborate across departments on cataloging projects.
