Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Medical Records Assistant to support statewide vital statistics registries by reviewing reported information, ensuring compliance, and maintaining data quality. You will analyze case records, assist stakeholders, and contribute to registry accuracy with a focus on confidentiality and adherence to regulations.

Qualifications

Minimum one year of clerical experience maintaining or reviewing medical records, transcribing dictated or recorded medical information, or conducting medical abstracting and coding.
Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial, medical records, medical transcription, medical assisting, medical coding, or health information management program.
An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

Statute knowledge: Maintain understanding of laws, regulations, and policies related to vital statistics.
Training support: Assist in developing training materials for electronic and paper registry processes.
Case review: Apply registry rules to audits, corrections, and validation of reported cases.
Data analysis: Investigate discrepancies, determine best values, and resolve issues with reporting entities.
Quality assurance: Analyze data for consistency using medical terminology, coding standards, and state and federal guidelines.
Record integrity: Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of registry information while supporting reporting facilities.
