Job summary

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is seeking a Medical Data Analyst / Outpatient Coder to perform diagnostic and procedural coding for inpatients, ambulatory surgery and outpatients. You will review records, abstract data, and assign APCs per guidelines while coordinating with physicians to clarify documentation.

Responsibilities include preparing abstracts for registries, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining compliance with hospital and federal requirements.

Qualifications

• College level course in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• 2-3 years medical record experience essential, preferably in an acute care, computerized environment.
• 1-2 years demonstrated coding experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-10CM, HCPCS, and applicable APR/DRG grouper coding schemes.
• Proficient with clinical information systems for accessing health information in an electronic environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic and procedural coding for inpatients, ambulatory surgery and outpatients.
• Review, abstract and apply APC assignment of outpatient and ambulatory surgery records.
• Review and analyze medical records to assign Attending Physician and Clinical Service per guidelines.
• Communicate with physicians to clarify documentation related to APC or coding assignment.
• Prepare abstracts for mandated registries and correct/ resubmit data as needed.
