Job summary

ABB in Richmond, VA is seeking a Chapter Lead to drive mechanical design for critical power equipment. You will design, test, document, and lead cost-reduction efforts while coordinating with engineering teams to meet customer and project requirements.

The role requires a bachelor’s in engineering, 2+ years in mechanical design, and SolidWorks proficiency; PLM exposure and safety standards knowledge are a plus. Hybrid work model in a critical power environment is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• 2+ years in mechanical engineering, product development, or product design.
• Solid modeling CAD design software (SolidWorks) required.
• Collaborative, solution-focused approach and strong communication skills.
• Experience with thermal/structural evaluation; PLM a plus.
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards (UL/IEC) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to mechanical design deliverables for new or enhanced critical power equipment.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to meet project requirements and timelines.
• Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Design and release mechanical prototypes; support fabrication and improvements post-prototype.
• Lead cost-reduction opportunities and manufacturing alignment.
• Translate conceptual designs into engineering documentation and support manufacturing.
