Job summary

Hall & Evans, LLC, Denver’s established defense law firm, seeks a Legal Billing Manager to oversee the Billing department and drive accuracy and efficiency. The role requires proactive problem solving and leadership of a high-volume team in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will manage billing processes, ensure compliance with client/carrier guidelines, and collaborate with attorneys, staff, and insurance carriers to resolve issues and maximize revenue.

Qualifications

• 5+ years billing experience in a law firm or professional services setting.
• 3+ years of direct team leadership in a billing department.
• Hands-on experience with legal billing software and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Manages Billing Department: Train, supervise, and assign daily workloads. Organizes Billing Specialist assignments and monitors productivity, attorney and client relationships, and addresses/resolves day-to-day issues and challenges.
• Oversees Billing Review & Compliance: Ensures Billing Specialists are trained and competent when reviewing draft invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with client and carrier billing guidelines.
• Trains Billing Specialists to identify recurring billing issues and proposes process improvements to reduce rejection rates and ensure proper use of timekeeper rates, task codes, budgets, and client requirements.
• Supervises E-Billing, Appeals, & Adjustments: Submits invoices through third-party e-billing platforms and manages appeals with attorneys and insurance carriers to maximize recoverable revenue.
• Communication & Collaboration: Serves as primary escalation point for billing specialists and communicates with attorneys, staff, and insurance carriers to resolve issues.
• Documentation: Maintains organized billing records, including submission of rates, budgets, e-billing appeals, and client correspondence.
• Client Relationships: Builds positive relationships with clients by providing excellent customer service and addressing billing concerns professionally.
