Job summary

ERM seeks a Principal Consultant, Planning Engineer / Transportation, in a hybrid DC-based role to lead major capital transportation projects aligned with the energy transition and sustainable infrastructure goals. You will mentor peers, shape methodologies, and guide proposals while coordinating with clients and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil/Transportation Engineering or Planning.
• 6+ years (10+ preferred) in transportation planning/engineering for major capital projects.
• Strong knowledge of NEPA and FHWA/FTA guidance; state/local requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead multimodal transportation analyses for major projects.
• Develop NEPA-compliant methodologies and environmental/ social assessments.
• Contribute to proposals and define transportation scope and effort.
• Build client relationships and lead transportation planning pursuits.
• Mentor junior team members and foster a collaborative culture.
• Occasional travel to project locations.
