Job summary

MANTECH seeks a Lead Data Engineer to join the Enterprise Data, AI, and Automation team in Herndon, VA. This hybrid role requires 2-3 days onsite weekly.

You will bridge raw data to BI, AI/ML readiness, and guide legacy warehouse to a modern lakehouse, shaping the data model, pipelines, and observability across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years in data engineering, strong SQL, cloud data platforms, and experience leading architectural initiatives in enterprise systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field; 7+ years of data engineering experience, incl. 2+ years leading initiatives or architectural design.
• Experience integrating common enterprise systems via database connectors or APIs.
• Hands-on experience with data lakehouse architecture and tradeoffs in data modeling.
• Strong SQL skills and relational schema management.
• Experience with cloud data platforms and code-driven orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect).
• Familiarity with CI/CD and version control for data infrastructure (Azure DevOps, GitHub).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Develop/update data warehouse schema for reporting and analytics.
• Select and implement next-gen analytics platforms and data eng tooling.
• Lead migration toward a modern data lakehouse and universal semantic model.
• Implement automated data validation, lineage, and observability across pipelines.
• Support real-time alerts and executive reporting for KPIs.
• Mentor teammates on data engineering best practices and ML-ready data flows.
