Job summary

McGuireWoods LLP seeks a Data Architect to design and govern the Firm’s Data Lakehouse, ensuring scalable, secure data solutions for BI, analytics, and AI initiatives. You will collaborate with the Database Platform Lead, stakeholders, and developers to translate requirements into robust data architectures.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience in enterprise data solutions, data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and cloud platforms, with a focus on data quality and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of five years of experience in data architecture or related technical discipline.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure and Databricks.
• Designing and implementing enterprise data solutions including data structures, models, and pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills with relational databases and data warehouses.
• Knowledge of data modeling concepts including relational and dimensional modeling.
• Hands-on ETL/ELT, data integration patterns, transformation, and mapping.
• Experience integrating data from multiple enterprise applications and data sources.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms and modern data architecture (data lake, data warehouse, lakehouse).
• Designing secure, scalable data solutions for BI, analytics, or AI.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical data architecture and integration solutions.
• Understanding of data quality, security, governance, lineage, and access control.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain the technical architecture of the Firm’s Data Lakehouse, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to capture data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Identify data sources and evaluate requirements to support BI, analytics, and AI.
• Design data structures, flows, mappings, and integration approaches for downstream use.
• Configure and maintain data connectors between Data Lakehouse and Firm systems.
• Work with source system owners to understand data structures and resolve integration issues.
• Apply data modeling, transformation, and governance practices within the Data Lakehouse.
• Collaborate with BI developers, AI engineers, and software developers to support downstream solutions.
• Participate in evaluation and optimization of Data Lakehouse capabilities and integrations.
• Provide guidance on data architecture and ensure adherence to standards.
• Document data architecture, mappings, flows, dependencies, and designs.
• Evaluate emerging data technologies and propose architectural improvements.
• Stay abreast of data architecture trends and apply relevant developments.
