Job summary

BankNewport seeks a Commercial Credit Underwriting Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the commercial underwriting team and supervise credit analysts reviewing prospective loan requests, modifications, renewals, and annual relationship reviews.

The role emphasizes compliance, risk assessment, and collaboration with lending officers, with travel to Rhode Island locations for training and meetings as needed.

Qualifications

• Extensive commercial credit experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant work experience for 7–10 years in credit underwriting and portfolio management.
• managerial or team-lead experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Assign loans to credit analysts and manage daily workflow of underwriting pipeline.
• Review and analyze credit memorandums for accuracy and compliance.
• Assign risk ratings and identify policy exceptions or red flags.
• Underwrite complex commercial loan requests as needed.
• Coordinate with loan officers and business bankers on structuring terms and conditions.
• Ensure compliance with banking regulations and Bank policies; advise management on issues.
• Lead training and coaching for team; promote collaboration across lending lines.
• Maintain proficiency with Microsoft Office and loan platform software (nCino).
