Beacon AI in San Carlos, CA is seeking a Lead Backend Software Engineer to own the backend services powering our flight safety platform. You will design, build, and scale APIs, data pipelines, and distributed systems, balancing hands-on development with technical leadership across product teams.

The role emphasizes reliability, security, and performance in production, with collaboration across engineering, data, and operations.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of experience designing and implementing backend services.
• Fluency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js).
• Experience with data pipelines and large-scale or real-time data.
• Strong ownership and end-to-end delivery.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain backend services and distributed systems.
• Design secure, scalable APIs for internal and external integrations.
• Build data pipelines for time-series and multimedia data.
• Own backend reliability, performance, and scalability in production.
• Lead technical design discussions and code reviews.
• Troubleshoot backend and cloud infra issues to ensure high availability.
• Own features from concept to delivery with cross-functional partners.
