Job summary

Doghouse Recruitment's client, a proprietary market maker in Austin, seeks a Lead Latency Engineer to own the latency program from the ground up. You will define baselines, design tick-to-trade monitoring, and drive measurable improvements across development, infrastructure and performance.

You will build a data-driven vision, validate with measurements, and guide a small matrix of teams. Hybrid office role with 3+ days onsite; up to 190K base plus large bonus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in performance-critical systems with latency ownership.
• Hands-on experience with US equities/futures connectivity for latency monitoring.
• Strong Linux performance tuning and low-latency networking expertise.
• Solid C++ skills with hardware-aware instincts.
• Ability to read latency profiles and decide tuning vs. redesign.

Responsibilities

• Build tick-to-trade monitoring essentially from scratch with baselines.
• Create a latency vision and a data-driven prioritized roadmap.
• Drive continuous latency improvements with development, infrastructure and performance.
• Specify latency requirements for colocation, time-sync, NIC and hot-path changes.
• Lead latency design reviews and uplift the team's latency literacy.
• Scope FPGA/SmartNIC offload with hardware specialists; move it forward.
• Work across a stack of software, hardware and custom components.
