Job summary

The New School is hiring language tutors to assist students in one-on-one sessions, teaching grammar, pronunciation, and writing. The role includes reviewing homework, guiding in presentations, and promoting language courses after completing training. The position is hybrid—remote work with occasional on-campus presence.

Qualifications

• Native or near native fluency in the target language and clear English communication to explain language rules.
• Prior tutoring experience in school or other institutions is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills: patience, empathy, respect and tolerance.
• Only students enrolled at The New School University may apply.

Responsibilities

• Attend tutoring training sessions and review digital materials.
• Conduct 15-minute class visits in various languages and guide students to sign in for tutoring sessions.
• Explain grammar, pronunciation, and practice with homework and assignments.
• Provide corrections and constructive feedback on oral and written language usage.
• Facilitate speaking/listening exercises to build real-world conversation skills.
• Coordinate with language professors for cultural events and class integration.
• Set up STARFISH office hours and manage timeheets weekly, with on-campus visits as needed.
• Notify supervisors or coordinators if sessions cancel or if attendance drops.
• Log sessions in the tracking sheet with date, time, and student name.
