Job summary

Popular, Puerto Rico’s leading financial institution, seeks an Accountant to ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, reconciling, and analyzing transactions. The role supports the Insurance Accounting group and assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual closings, budgeting, and audits.

The position requires a Bachelor's in Accounting and at least one year of general accounting experience, with strong Excel skills and bilingual English/Spanish abilities preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
• Minimum of one year of general accounting experience.
• Attention to detail essential.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
• Fully bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze accounting transactions for the Insurance business entities (Popular Insurance, Popular Risk Services, Popular Life Re, Popular Re).
• Prepare and record daily and month-end journal entries in the General Ledger (S/4HANA).
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of internal accounting procedures per requirements.
• Assist in preparing variance explanations for income statement and balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with the annual budget process and forecast revisions.
• Investigate unusual transactions and discrepancies and propose adjustments as needed.
• Provide documentation and accounting support for audits and compliance.
• Assist with quarterly accrual certification and statutory reporting.
