Job summary

AARP, a national nonprofit, seeks a Financial Operations Manager to oversee budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial controls for its Public Policy Institute. You will manage operating, salary, and capital budgets, monitor spend, and provide proactive guidance to leadership on budget performance and financial operations.

The role partners with Finance, Accounting, Procurement, and program stakeholders to ensure contract compliance and efficient resource management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 5+ years of FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, financial operations, or related management functions.
• Experience consolidating budgets across multiple departments, programs, or funding sources.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budget controls.
• Experience monitoring contracts, purchase orders, expenditures to align with budgets.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, consolidates, and reports on annual operating, salary, and capital budgets.
• Summarizes the financial status of the business unit and identifies variances.
• Performs multi-year financial planning and generates forecasts and budgets.
• Analyzes trends in revenues and expenses to improve performance.
• Reviews departmental expenditures and maintains spending records for control.
• Provides oversight or executes processes and systems that support financial operations.
• Processes and prepares accounting entries and reconciles general ledger accounts.
