Job summary

University of California, Berkeley is seeking an Events Specialist to support the Helen Diller Institute for Jewish Law and Israel Studies. The role focuses on planning, coordinating, and publicizing virtual, hybrid, and in-person events, spanning lectures, conferences, and workshops.

You will collaborate with the executive director, marketing specialist, and staff to ensure events are well marketed, logged, and evaluated using participation data and feedback.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and production and public relations.
  • Working knowledge of and/or ability to learn the campus, its programs, policies, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
  • Solid organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate several projects simultaneously with demanding timeframes.
  • Highly effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills to successfully interact with diverse constituents and present information in a manner that is appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Good judgment and effective decision-making and problem resolution skills, including skill to recognize and deal effectively and appropriately with real and potential problem areas.
  • Ability to work in diverse groups, including but not limited to students, staff, faculty, general public, production personnel, technical operators and performing artists.
  • Ability to work professionally under pressure and under tight deadlines ensuring excellent customer service support.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with individuals and groups from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement, and publicize virtual, hybrid, and in-person events of varying size and complexity.
  • Assist with travel arrangements, vendor payments, and event budgets.
  • Coordinate A/V, media, and technical support for events and collaborate with campus partners and external vendors.
  • Oversee event logistics from inception through completion, including venue coordination and registrations.
  • Maintain communications calendars and project timelines.
  • Gathers, analyzes program participation data and prepares reports to support planning.
