The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking an Associate Environmental Specialist to coordinate compliance programs across its facilities in Los Angeles. You will develop and implement programs for hazardous materials, air quality, wastewater, and underground storage tanks, and manage regulatory databases.

This role emphasizes training materials, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with internal teams and external regulators. The schedule is hybrid.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field with 4 years of relevant experience; or two years in MWD Assistant Environmental Specialist II; or Master's degree with two years of relevant experience.
• Related experience includes environmental, health and safety compliance programs for local, state and federal requirements (Air Quality, Underground Storage Tanks, Industrial Wastewater, Stormwater, Hazardous Materials/Waste).

Responsabilités

• Develop and conduct environmental assessments, plans, and permitting projects across multiple regional sites, focusing on hazardous materials, air quality, and wastewater management.
• Utilize key state and local databases—CERS, GeoTracker, SCAQMD Permit Database, CalOES Spill Reporting, DTSC Hazardous Waste Tracking—to ensure complete and accurate compliance reporting.
• Modernize EHS records using SharePoint and cloud platforms; evaluate and recommend updated tools and systems as needs evolve.
• Track federal, state, and local environmental laws to advise on compliance strategy.
• Engage with internal partners and external regulatory agencies to maintain positive relationships.
