Job summary

General Motors is seeking a qualified engineer to develop and apply 3D variation simulation models that account for part and process variation, stiffness and material behavior. You will collaborate with Product and Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, and launch teams to translate analysis into robust design and manufacturing decisions.

The role requires a BS in Engineering or Math with 2 years of experience, GD&T proficiency, and experience in Design/Release/Manufacturing.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering, Math or equivalent
• 2 years of relevant work experience
• Knowledgeable in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Design/Release/Manufacturing Experience

Responsibilities

• Assist with dimensional strategies, datum schemes, locating strategies, tolerance allocation through variation analysis simulations.
• Build and run 3D variation models using approved engineering methods and tools.
• Develop or support compliant variation models that account for part stiffness and material behavior to help drive dimensional strategies that meet customer needs and reduce waste and rework for GM.
• Combine 3D variation simulation with traditional CAE analyses to evaluate dimensional performance and identify design or process improvements.
• Help identify dimensional risks and communicate recommended actions to cross-functional partners.
• Participate in reviews with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, suppliers, and plant teams.
• Maintain clear technical documentation, action plans, and status updates.
• Apply GM processes, standards, lessons learned, and engineering best practices to assigned work.
• Build knowledge of digital engineering tools and identify opportunities to improve dimensional processes and automation.
