Job summary

The Planet Group in Elk Grove Village, IL is seeking a Design Engineer to expand and develop cost‑effective design solutions for standard and custom applications. The role works closely with the sales team to craft unique client designs and deliver detailed CAD data for in-house manufacturing.

The engineer will manage projects, prototype, document engineering work, and drive process improvements. The position is onsite with a potential 1-day work-from-home after 3–6 months, offering a starting

Qualifications

• Degree preferred.
• 3+ years experience in a wood or metal manufacturing environment, store fixture industry preferred.
• Proficiency with 3D solid modeling (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Vault or equivalent.
• Working understanding of ERP software.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to problem-solve quickly and effectively.
• Ability to produce under pressure of timelines and customer demands.
• Ability to prioritize and work independently on multiple small projects.

Responsibilities

• Produce fixture design & drawings for internal and customer review.
• Incorporate efficient, best-practice methods in design and drawings.
• Manage custom projects to assure on-time completion.
• Source and develop information for efficient production and quality.
• Create assembly & installation drawings for production and client.
• Interact with production to assure design/production flow.
• Create Bills of Materials for all manufactured wood/metal products.
• Maintain/update all revisions to BOMs.
• Prioritize cost savings across processes with value engineering.
• Involvement in assembly of prototypes.
• Follow supervisor instructions and perform other duties as required.
