Job summary

The Queens District Attorney's Office seeks a Day/Evening Deputy Bureau Chief to oversee the Intake and Assessments Bureau. The hybrid role requires leadership over attorneys and support staff, with a schedule to include days and evenings.

The ideal candidate holds a J.D. and NY bar, with substantial post‑J.D. trial experience, deep knowledge of NY Penal Law, and a proven ability to train and mentor junior staff in a high‑volume environment.

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree and active NY State bar in good standing; 7+ years post-J.D. experience.
  • Experience supervising attorneys and support staff.
  • Felony jury trial experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the NY Penal and Criminal Procedure Law.
  • Strong knowledge of criminal justice reform and the Intake and Assessment Bureau.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and managing IAB attorneys and support staff.
  • Training IAB attorneys and support staff on standards and burdens of proof; and complaint drafting.
  • Training IAB attorneys in best practices for investigatory, trial advocacy and ethics.
  • Supporting development of TPA/Paralegals with training programs.
  • Providing direct supervision to TPA/Paralegals and evaluating performance.
  • Overseeing short and long term projects and interfacing with NYPD and other agencies.
  • Generating policy and statistical reports on bail applications.
  • Maintaining weekly schedule and timekeeping records.
