Job summary

Merck seeks a Director of Data Science (R-track) to provide strategic leadership for analytics and data enablement across therapeutic areas. You will define enterprise data strategies, governance, and driven automation to align with clinical and digital health goals.

Responsibilities include building dashboards, overseeing scalable pipelines, mentoring teams, and partnering with clinical IT to deliver measurable business and scientific outcomes.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of analytics governance and data strategy.
• Expertise in advanced data analytics, automation, and AI/ML in clinical/digital health data.
• Experience designing automated analytics pipelines and data architectures.
• Proficiency with Python, R, SQL and data visualization/monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of CDISC/SDTM and regulatory compliance (GxP, 21 CFR Part 11).
• Experience leading enterprise-scale data transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead analytics enablement, KPI dashboards, and governance across therapeutic areas.
• Oversee automated data pipelines, ensure scalability and regulatory alignment.
• Promote AI/ML adoption and continuous improvement across programs.
• Define dataset design, feature engineering, and reproducibility practices.
• Mentor analytics teams and grow organizational analytics maturity.
• Partner with clinical, data management, and IT to drive cohesive analytics.
• Champion change and new operating models across global functions.
