Job summary

The City of Renton is seeking a Code Compliance Inspector in the Community & Economic Development Division. You will enforce the Renton Municipal Code, address nuisances and property violations, and coordinate with multiple departments.

A balance of fieldwork and office case management is required. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 2 years of code enforcement experience (or 6 years of equivalent education/experience), and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of code enforcement experience.
• Or minimum 6 years of relevant education and experience.
• Valid Drivers’ License.
• Successful passing of a required driving record check.
• Successful passing of a required background check.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections to assure safety and welfare of residents and enforce code compliance.
• Research planning files and review comments to determine approvals or required actions.
• Investigate complaints about hazards, nuisance abatement, safety, noise and land use violations.
• Gather and preserve evidence for legal proceedings and communicate with violators.
• Provide technical information to the public and interpret municipal codes.
• Review site and building plans for regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with City, State and County agencies and contractors on cases.
• File complaints for code violations in court and maintain records.
