Job summary

The City of Renton is seeking an experienced Development Services Director to lead the Community & Economic Development Department. This role directs the Development Services Division, including plan review, code enforcement, building inspection, and permitting functions, with emphasis on strategic planning and excellent customer service.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in planning or engineering, 8+ years of relevant experience, supervisory leadership, and an ICC Building Official

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field required; strong planning and building background.
• ICC Building Official certification preferred.
• Minimum 8 years planning/engineering experience; 5 years supervisory experience.
• Valid driver's license and background check required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Development Services Division operations and goals.
• Direct inspections of buildings and building systems.
• Explain and enforce building codes and ordinances; issue citations as needed.
• Develop policies for permitting, plan review, and code enforcement.
• Coordinate with departments and outside agencies on inspections and enforcement.
• Present programs to community groups and City Council.
