Job summary

The University of Rhode Island invites applications for a Research Associate III to advance coastal hazards modeling and GIS applications. You will support CHAMP, STORMTOOLS, and MyCoast RI, develop advanced GIS products, and provide technical leadership across a team of researchers.

The role requires turning model outputs into accessible GIS tools for planners and emergency managers, preparing technical reports, and supporting grant proposals.

Qualifications

• Strong GIS experience with dashboards and decision-support tools.
• Experience acquiring and processing hydrological/land-use data.
• Ability to translate model outputs into user-friendly GIS products.
• Experience with real-time data during storms is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Operate existing workflows and maintain dashboards.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance advanced GIS products and tools.
• Use GIS to process hydrological datasets for flood modeling.
• Produce GIS-based risk and vulnerability reports.
• Design and manage GIS systems with tiered access.
• Translate model outputs for planners, emergency managers, and the public.
• Coordinate with Environmental Data Center for data management and reliability.
• Support real-time ADCIRC model deployment during storm events.
• Contribute to grant writing and outreach materials.
• Collaborate to integrate modeling with observations.
