Job summary

SMX in Columbia, SC is seeking a Cloud Engineer to join the State and Local Platforms and Data Managed Services team. You will deploy, maintain, and support cloud environments across multiple client environments, ensuring reliability, security, and performance in line with SLAs.

This hybrid role may require periodic travel to customer facilities. You will work with internal teams and clients, applying IaC with Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation, plus scripting in PowerShell or Python to automate

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, CS, or related field.
• 3+ years hands-on experience supporting cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) in managed services.
• Strong understanding of core cloud services (compute, storage, networking, identity, security, backup/recovery).
• Experience with IaC tools (Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation) and scripting.
• Proficient in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
• Familiarity with ITSM tools (ServiceNow, ConnectWise) and ITIL practices.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and provide day-to-day operational support for client cloud environments.
• Implement and maintain cloud resources across compute, storage, networking, and security.
• Support cloud migrations, upgrades, and integrations with project teams.
• Monitor health, cost, and security; resolve issues and document root causes.
• Maintain environment documentation, change logs, and knowledge bases.
• Collaborate with Service Desk and NOC to deliver consistent support.
• Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support.
