University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO, is seeking a Software Engineer I to help modernize the CESM modeling ecosystem, targeting performance improvements, memory reductions, and GPU portability. You will work with the Community Software Facility and researchers to drive strategic priorities.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field or equivalent experience, with strong profiling, software development, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to identify performance bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and technical limitations through profiling, testing and code analysis.
• Ability to recommend and implement modernization strategies, including refactoring legacy code and updating libraries.
• Experience with software development processes and collaborating with scientists and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the enhancement of the CESM modeling ecosystem for performance improvements and hardware portability.
• Reviews and analyzes existing modeling software capabilities and documents findings and decisions for knowledge sharing.
• Explores benchmarks in newer languages and paradigms and stays current with tools and techniques for modernization.
