Job summary

County of Sonoma is seeking a Building Inspector II to perform a broad range of inspections and plan reviews across multiple trades. The role covers indoor and outdoor environments, frequent travel to remote locations, and requires certification within one year of appointment.

A strong emphasis is placed on clear communication and adherence to California codes. The position offers a competitive starting salary up to $58.58/hour ($122,263/year) with a robust benefits package and hybrid telework

Qualifications

California building, housing, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes knowledge.
Experience interpreting building plans and specifications.
Ability to explain complex regulations clearly to customers.
Proficiency in multitasking and using various computer programs and devices.
Excellent communication and ability to work independently and in a team.
Ability to shift gears quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Perform inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial projects across trades.
Review building plans for code conformance with County policies.
Drive to remote/offsite locations as required.
Communicate code requirements effectively to customers and contractors.
Enforce state and county codes and ordinances and ensure safety on job sites.
