Job summary

Duke University is seeking a Budget Manager to oversee financial operations across assigned units in the Provost Area Management Center. The role drives budget development, variance analysis, and strategic financial planning in a fast-paced academic environment.

Reporting to the Director, you will guide unit finance leads, ensure policy compliance, and provide expert analysis for senior leadership. A Bachelor's in a relevant field and strong Excel/ERP skills are required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
CPA is desirable.
Three (3) years of experience in financial management, cost accounting or related field.
Equivalent combination of education and/or experience accepted.

Responsibilities

Instruct unit finance leads on complex financial analysis and budget preparation.
Oversee budget processes: annual budget, projections, outyear plans, and capital planning.
Monitor performance against plans and advise senior leadership.
Review financial transactions for compliance with policies and donor intent.
Provide project management for programs and ensure timely deliverables.
Prepare variance analyses and support long-term transparency.
Contract Review: read/assess contracts; negotiate with vendors.
Perform additional departmental duties as assigned.
