Job summary

GFT, an innovative AEC firm, is seeking an Entry Level Bridge Engineer to join the Transportation group in Chicago or Schaumburg, IL. The role follows a hybrid work model with 3 days onsite per week, offering opportunities to work on bridge projects, perform analyses, and develop plans using CADD tools while learning from senior staff.

Ideal candidates hold a Civil/Structural Engineering degree with 0–1 years of bridge design exposure, familiarity with AutoCAD/Civil 3D/MicroStation, and a desire

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Civil or Structural Engineering degree.
• 0–1 year bridge design experience or demonstrated interest.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation.
• Knowledge of structural design software and plan development.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong communication and teamwork; eager to grow technically.
• Physically capable of field work and heights.
• Valid driver's license; ability to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Support plans, details, and specifications for bridge projects.
• Assist in structural design and analysis under senior engineers.
• Perform calculations, quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
• Perform load rating analyses and assist in load rating reports.
• Prepare technical reports and inspection documentation.
• Assist with shop drawing reviews and ensure contract compliance.
• Perform field inspections on bridges and tunnels.
• Use CADD to develop construction plans.
