Job summary

GFT in Pittsburgh is seeking a Bridge Designer to join our Transportation Practice on a hybrid schedule. You will contribute to the design, inspection support, and documentation for highway and railway bridges, assisting senior staff on a range of projects.

The role emphasizes adherence to design standards, cost estimation inputs, and collaboration within a project team, using CADD tools to develop construction plans and 3D models. 0–4 years experience preferred.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent
• Fundamentals of Engineering has been taken and passed, preferred
• 0 to 4 years of experience
• Experience with CADD required

Responsibilities

• Prepares details and plans in support of broader engineering activities involving the design of highway/railway bridges and related structures.
• Assists with bridge inspection activities for routine structures under direction of Inspection Team Leader.
• Assists with structural design activities for routine structures under direction of Design Team Leader.
• Gathers, calculates and records information to be used for cost estimating.
• Prepares basic specifications
• Reviews shop drawings to evaluate compliance with contract documents.
• Prepares first draft of technical reports or sections of larger reports.
• Utilizes CADD to develop construction plans which may include 3D models.
• Works as part of a project team within the bridge discipline.
• Follows project delivery and quality control procedures and standards in compliance with client and company specific guidelines on time and within budget.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge through attendance at educational workshops and participation in professional societies.
