Job summary

Stantec’s New York City office seeks a dedicated Bridge Design Engineer to support the growing New York Bridge and Transportation practice on large infrastructure projects. You will assist under a Senior Bridge Engineer on bridges, interchanges, and public spaces, delivering complex AASHTO-based designs.

The role requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of DOT standards, and the ability to mentor junior staff. Hybrid work with a NYC focus and potential local DOT coordination is available.

Qualifications

• Masters or Bachelor's in Civil (Structural) Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 5–10 years’ experience in bridge and structural design of transportation structures.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York (or ability to obtain).
• Demonstrated experience delivering multi-span steel and concrete bridge projects.
• Strong familiarity with DOT standards, design manuals, and standard sheets.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed structural analyses and load rating per AASHTO LRFD and local requirements.
• Develop design deliverables including criteria, plans, specifications, quantities and calculations.
• Prepare and review steel and concrete design calculations, quantities, and reports.
• Supervise and mentor junior bridge engineers and CAD designers.
• Lead preparation of design and construction documents per NYSDOT standards.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines (highway, traffic, geotechnical).
• Support design‑build pursuits with technical and schematic concepts.
