Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking an Assistant General Counsel I (NS) in the Health Benefits division. This role provides legal advice, supports Medicaid managed care transformation, and helps with legislation and rulemaking across the division.

You will interpret laws and regulations, coordinate with the Chief Legal Officer, and guide internal teams on regulatory compliance and legislative matters.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar.
• Two years of progressively responsible professional legal experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and consultation to the Division of Health Benefits.
• Support Medicaid managed care initiatives, amendments, waivers, and rulemaking.
• Draft, review, and refine legislation and administrative rules.
• Interpret federal and state laws and regulatory language related to Medicaid programs.
• Assist with litigation coordination and discovery as needed.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support program and policy objectives.
