Job summary

PurposeBuilt Brands in Illinois is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead the General Accounting function, manage the accounting team, and oversee the month-end close to ensure accurate financial reporting under U.S. GAAP.

You will drive process improvements, support acquisitions and integrations, partner with Operations and Finance, and strengthen internal controls while providing cross-functional leadership across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required or equivalent experience.
• CPA certification or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience in a similar role.
• Minimum 5 years leading accounting professionals (managers or above).
• Demonstrated experience managing month-end close and financial statements under U.S. GAAP.
• Strong knowledge of inventory accounting in manufacturing or consumer products.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and ERP systems experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the accounting team, overseeing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes.
• Manage preparation and review of financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses for GAAP compliance.
• Oversee inventory, cost accounting, intercompany, payroll-related accounting, and period-end accruals.
• Support external audits, tax reporting, and strengthen internal controls and policies.
• Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance to analyze results and drive improvements.
• Assist with acquisitions, due diligence, and financial consolidations as needed.
• Support Controller with reporting and strategic initiatives.
