Job summary

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is seeking a mid-level Archaeologist with 5+ years to manage projects in Southern California. Hybrid role—in-office 1-2 days weekly across Irvine, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Rancho Cucamonga, San Diego, Thousand Oaks, or Santa Barbara—you will lead survey and documentation efforts and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams.

You hold a bachelor’s or higher in archaeology or related field, have CEQA experience, and can mentor junior staff while delivering

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in archaeology, geoarchaeology, or closely related field.
• Ability to lead survey crews and produce well-written, technically supported cultural resources documents.
• Strong CEQA understanding; some NEPA and NHPA knowledge preferred.
• Ability to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget; mentorship of junior staff a plus.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage and conduct archaeological resources assessments.
• Lead archaeological resources survey.
• Lead archaeological resources portions of multi-disciplinary projects with a larger team.
• Manage archival research, context development, documentation, evaluations, and CEQA impact analyses.
• Primary author for archaeological resource assessment reports and MND/EIR sections.
• Provide guidance to project teams and occasionally supervise small teams.
