Job summary

IDS Inland Deicing Services, LLC seeks a part-time/seasonal Deicing Equipment Mechanic to maintain deicing gear and ground support equipment at Des Moines DSM. You will perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, run diagnostics, and assist in aircraft de/icing operations as needed.

The role requires at least two years in a maintenance field with mechanical and electrical skills, plus the ability to read manuals and schematics; travel and training may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; 2+ years in a maintenance role preferred.
  • Ability to read manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
  • Experience with deicing equipment or ground support equipment is a plus.
  • Strong safety and record-keeping practices.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain and repair deicing equipment and GSE.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance; maintain records.
  • Communicate status and timelines with team.
  • Identify parts and assist with ordering.
  • Prepare equipment for de/anti-icing operations.
  • Assist operations with aircraft de/icing when needed.

Position Overview

The Deicing Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing deicing equipment, ground support equipment, service vehicles, tractors/trailers, pumps, hoses and related facility equipment to ensure they remain safe, reliable and operational. This position performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshoots mechanical and electrical issues, maintains accurate records and ensures equipment meets company, airport and regulatory requirements. When maintenance responsibilities are complete, this position will also assist the Operations team with aircraft de/anti-icing activities as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain and repair deicing equipment, GSE, vehicles, pumps, hoses and other equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections and equipment checks, and maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Communicate equipment status, outstanding repairs and expected completion timelines with team members and management.
  • Identify parts and materials needed for repairs, maintain appropriate inventory and assist with ordering parts and supplies.
  • Prepare equipment for de/anti-icing operations, including fueling trucks, servicing equipment and completing required pre-season and pre-event checks.
  • When needed, assist Operations with aircraft de/anti-icing, aircraft marshalling, radio communications, pad shutdown procedures, inspections and required documentation.
Required Skills and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of experience in a maintenance field, with mechanical and electrical maintenance experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems and complete repairs within established timeframes.
  • Knowledge of gasoline- and diesel-powered equipment, including their design, operation, repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and use maintenance manuals, schematics, blueprints, illustrated parts catalogs and other maintenance documentation, as well as standard and specialty tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel, with the ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Safety-oriented, dependable and organized team player with effective communication skills, adaptability and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Additional Info
  • Travel: Periodic travel to other locations may be required to provide troubleshooting support, training or backup to other mechanics. Travel may occur on short notice to meet business needs.
  • De/Anti-Icing: Successful completion of all required IDS classroom and on-the-job de/anti-icing training is required. Airport/airline operations and de/anti-icing experience are preferred.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required.
  • Security: Must be able to obtain and maintain all security clearances required by TSA and/or applicable airport authorities and successfully complete required pre-employment background screening.
  • Physical Requirements: Position requires prolonged periods of standing and working around heavy equipment, moving vehicles, fuel, fumes, dust, dirt, noise and varying weather conditions. Employees must occasionally lift or move 100 pounds or more and must be able to climb to heights of approximately 15 feet.
  • Schedule: This position may be full-time, part-time or seasonal. The work schedule will be established with the Manager and/or Supervisor and may require responding to equipment issues or operational needs outside of regular scheduled hours.
