Job summary

Virginia Tech's Advanced Research Computing (ARC) invites applications for a Research Software Engineer, AI/ML to build and support software enabling AI/ML for researchers. You will tackle varied challenges across AI services, grow with the team, and progressively own our LLM infrastructure.

The role includes leading workshops and training to help more researchers use AI effectively. This position supports hybrid work, with on-site duties primarily in Blacksburg, VA.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Professional experience in a Linux environment (shell, scripting, packaging, troubleshooting).
• Experience developing and maintaining software and/or web services.
• Experience with containerization technologies for deploying scalable workloads.

Responsibilities

• Build and support software making AI/ML accessible to researchers.
• Own and operate LLM infrastructure and related AI tooling.
• Lead workshops and training to help researchers use AI effectively.
• Collaborate with faculty, Computational Scientists and ARC team on AI projects.
