Job summary

Barnes & Noble Education seeks an Accounting Operations Analyst to support accurate accounting operations across tender and payment streams, including credit cards, PayPal, gift cards, and web/digital sales. The role covers daily/month-end reconciliations, variance analysis, journal entries, and reporting within a shared-coverage model.

This hybrid position requires in-office attendance three days per week at our Florham Park, NJ headquarters.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2-3 years of accounting operations, reconciliations, or payments experience.
Strong Excel skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication with internal partners.

Responsibilities

Reconcile daily payment activity and settlements; research differences and resolve variances.
Prepare month-end journal entries and supporting schedules; escalate unresolved variances.
Support merchant onboarding and MID setup for new locations and accounts.
Reconcile gift card activity and web sales; prepare related entries and accruals.
Verify daily web sales; reconcile with order management systems and correct errors.
Create weekly payment files and reconcile against invoices and GL postings.
Prepare recurring reports and respond to stakeholder inquiries on payments.
Identify suspicious activity and support audit/testing documentation.
Participate in testing and implementation of process enhancements.
