Job summary

Vermont Adult Learning seeks an Adult Basic Education Instructor in Middlebury, VT, for part-time work at 32 hours per week with potential to teach additional remote evening classes. The role combines in-person instruction at the Middlebury Learning Center with optional remote evening teaching.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree and may have teaching licensure. Experience designing curricula, supporting diverse students, and delivering distance learning is preferred.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree is required; emphasis on education and teaching experience preferred.
• Teaching license is preferred, but not required.
• Experience designing curriculum to meet established standards.
• Experience with at-risk students and involvement with alternative educational systems preferred.
• Demonstrated experience supporting diverse students, including ELL and poverty-affected learners.

Responsibilities

• Provides high-quality individual and small group instruction, remotely and in-person, to VAL students.
• Provides learner-centered instruction in foundational and high school-level skills for GED/ABE and TABE prep.
• Teaches applied, academic, and interpersonal skills to adults.
• Develops effective proficiency-based curriculum and instructional materials.
• Collaborates with teachers and staff to support students’ personalized learning plans.
