General Function

As an Hy-Chi Department Cook, you will be responsible for preparing various foods for the Hy-Chi department, including food in hot and cold cases. You will ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness & Home, Food Service Director, Hy-Chi Department Manager, Assistant Hy-Chi Department Manager, Service Managers

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
• Greet customers with a smile and assist them in their shopping experience.
• Prepare foods by cleaning, heating, cooking, and assembling ingredients.
• Place food in hot cases, monitor amounts, and refill as needed.
• Order products and supplies or notify department head of needs.
• Maintain cleanliness of work area.
• Prepare items for the next day, including meats and other perishables.
• Understand all aspects of the Hy-Chi kitchen operations.
• Follow personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Report to work on time and as scheduled.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Check rice and other items as time permits.
• Assist in other store areas as needed.
• Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Characteristics

• Ability to follow detailed instructions.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; training provided.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Visual requirements include ability to see from more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet, with or without correction, and color vision.
• Physical activities include balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, finger dexterity, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Exposed to noise, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals. Fast-paced environment with deadlines.
