Job summary

Amazon Leo Hardware Development seeks a HW Dev Engineer I to contribute to advanced antenna systems for the Kuiper program. You will own design blocks, prototype concepts, and collaborate with RF teams throughout the design lifecycle.

The role involves test automation, system bring-up, and leading PCB layout reviews to ensure robust production-ready hardware. Strong emphasis on hardware design and validation in a dynamic aerospace-like environment.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent.
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimization of antenna system blocks.
  • Design proof-of-concept systems and prototypes for next-gen antennas.
  • Collaborate on RF circuitry design with RF team.
  • Design automated test systems, fixtures and factory tests.
  • Lead and review PCB layout and bring-up/test campaigns of active antennas.

Amazon LEO is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

As a Hardware Engineer, you will be a part of the team of experts working on the development of advanced antenna systems. You will own or contribute to the following:

  • Design and optimization of different blocks of antennas system
  • Design the proof of concept systems and prototypes for the next generation of the antennas
  • Design of RF circuitry in collaboration with RF team
  • Design of automated test systems, test fixtures and factory test
  • Bring-up and test campaigns of the active antennas
  • Lead and review PCB layout

As a hardware engineer, you will work alongside Senior Electrical Engineers supporting the design, debug, validation and optimization of the products. You will be involved in projects from concept through production, gaining exposure to the complete design lifecycle.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience with hardware/software integration and real-time systems
  • PhD in electrical engineering or computer engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of experience in using schematic
  • 1+ years of experience with Mentor Graphics or Cadence layout tools
  • 1+ years of experience using lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multi-meters
