Job summary

HITACHI ENERGY USA INC is seeking a Mechanical Plant Design Engineer to support HVDC converter station projects through mechanical design, layout development, and cross-discipline coordination. You will work with 3D modelling, 2D drawings, and interfaces to create safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.

The role entails reviewing technical documentation, preparing BOMs, and supporting installation and commissioning while adhering to project requirements and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in 3D modelling and 2D drafting for mechanical plants.
  • Familiarity with CAD/PLM tools; NX and Teamcenter are a plus.
  • HVDC or related infrastructure experience is preferred.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical plant layouts and 3D models for HVDC converter stations.
  • Prepare 2D drawings, BOMs, and accompanying design documentation.
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, project, tender, supplier, and contractor teams.
  • Provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
  • Ensure designs conform to safety, quality, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Review drawings and documents for accuracy and alignment with project needs.

In this role, you will work with 3D modelling, 2D drawings, mechanical interfaces, design documentation, and engineering estimates that help shape safe, reliable, and efficient converter station solutions. Your work will connect mechanical, civil, electrical, project, tender, supplier, contractor, and customer inputs into practical designs that meet project requirements for safety, quality, cost, and delivery. You will also help identify risks early, build HSE considerations into the design process, and support installation and commissioning activities when required.
