Job summary

Hitachi Energy USA INC in Raleigh, NC seeks a Project Technical Engineer to shape future grid reliability by supporting Grid Quality Solutions across North America. You will manage engineering work through design, construction, and commissioning, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and external partners on high‑voltage substations and related technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/ mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Experience with high‑voltage substation technologies and protection schemes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Secondary engineering activities across full project lifecycle for AIS and GIS projects from 69kV to 765kV substations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Develop control and protection scope documents and serve as primary technical contact for Secondary Engineering.
  • Drive innovation and cost‑effective solutions in proposals.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and contract standards compliance.
  • Support installation commissioning during construction phases.
  • Evaluate risks and mitigation strategies with Project Manager Engineering.
  • Promote continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Develop base and detailed design documents/drawings per customer requirements.
  • Lead development of new solutions for complex proposals/projects.
  • Drive completion of all engineering activities on projects.
  • Create work plans and cost estimates with quality deliverables.
