Job summary

Quest Global in Raleigh, NC is seeking a seasoned HVDC Protection Engineer to join our Energy Transition initiatives. You will test and commission control and protection hardware and software as part of our HVDC Projects in global centers.

You will work in Integration Testing, perform functional tests, document verification procedures, and support commissioning at customer sites worldwide. The role requires a degree in electrical engineering or energy technology, 4–8 years of relevant

Qualifications

  • Completed studies in electrical engineering or energy technology.
  • 4–8 years experience in control/communication design and SCADA for HV substations.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB/SIMULINK, Siemens SIMATIC TDC/S7, and grid protection systems.
  • Fluent English; willingness for worldwide travel.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the Energy Transition by delivering HVDC projects to customers.
  • Perform functional testing of control hardware and software in test centers.
  • Plan and execute testing procedures for converter control systems.
  • Trace bugs and support software engineering in debugging.
  • Document Functional and Dynamic Performance Tests and Customer Acceptance Tests.
  • Commission HVDC measuring and protection systems at customer sites.
  • Assist Commissioning Management with Quality, Risk and Claims.

In our HVDC Protection Team, we are testing and verifying the hardware and software for our innovative HVDC Projects in our Test Center and ensure proper functionality and good quality of our HVDC Plants worldwide during commissioning. Our diverse and multinational teams are working closely together with project management, engineering as well as with end customers to provide customized solutions based on the latest innovations in HVDC technology.

What You Will Do
  • You will actively advance the Energy Transition by bringing our HVDC projects to a successful completion with our customers
  • You are part of a project team in Integration Testing and you carry out Functional Tests of the Control & Protection hardware and software in one of our test centers
  • Preparation and execution of testing procedures and test programs for the converter control systems, including the necessary verification documentation
  • Planning, execution, and evaluation of workshop tests (acceptance tests) at sub-suppliers
  • You independently trace bugs and support our Software Engineering in debugging
  • You are responsible for the execution and documentation of the Functional Performance Tests (FPT) and Dynamic Performance Tests (DPT) of the HVDC System, including Customer Acceptance Tests in one of our test centers
  • You will be responsible for the commissioning of the Measuring System, the DC Protection System and the Transient Fault Recorder for our HVDC Projects as a part of a highly motivated team, at our customers sites worldwide
  • You will support our Commissioning Management in Quality, Risk and Claim Management and you actively participate in our improvement programs
What You Will Bring
  • Completed studies in electrical engineering, energy technology or comparable Completed degree in electrical engineering, energy technology or comparable education / qualification
  • 4-8 years or more of experience with a focus on control/communication design and SCADA for high voltage substations, solid knowledge in area of control and protection systems
  • Good knowledge in one or more of the following areas: project planning and testing via MATLAB/SIMULINK, Siemens SIMATIC TDC/S7, CFC, grid protection systems
  • Knowledge or ideally working experience in the field of Electrical Engineering and Commissioning of Electrical Power Stations or HVDC Systems
  • Knowledge in Current- and Voltage Measuring devices and other primary equipment
  • Fluent English language skills, further language skills are very welcome
  • Willingness for worldwide business trips and mainly long-term assignments on construction sites in Germany and abroad, as well as optional assignments on offshore platforms
  • Team player, communicative, proactive, positive handling of conflicts, decision‑making capability

Work Requirements

This role is considered an on-site position located in Raleigh , NC.
