Job summary

W3Global is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support its service organization in the United States. The role focuses on electrical equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance, with extensive field exposure.

You will work with customers across the country, provide on-site supervision during installation, testing, and commissioning activities, and train staff when required. Expect travel up to 80% domestically, plus onboarding at a European facility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3+ years in commissioning or related electrical environments.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical equipment and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with DC power systems up to 3 kV.
  • OSHA/First Aid/CPR safety training or certification.

About The Opportunity

One of our clients, a globally recognized manufacturer specializing in DC switchgear, power conversion systems, and traction power solutions, is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support its U.S. service organization. This role is ideal for a technically strong professional with experience in electrical equipment installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and customer-facing field service. The position involves extensive domestic travel and collaboration with internal teams and customers across the United States.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance at customer facilities according to established standards.
  • Support installation, testing, commissioning, and startup of electrical equipment.
  • Implement equipment retrofits and modernization projects in collaboration with internal teams and customers.
  • Provide on-site supervision during installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Conduct customer training when required.
  • Perform audits and assessments of existing electrical equipment.
  • Prepare detailed technical intervention reports and documentation.
  • Support Sales Engineers with customer substation surveys and site assessments.
  • Assist the Sales team with repair quotations and technical information.
  • Identify and promote additional service opportunities during customer visits, including spare parts, repairs, field services, retrofits, and training.
  • Provide technical support for DC electrical products and systems.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; relevant technical/industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in commissioning, installation, testing, maintenance, power distribution, switchgear manufacturing, or similar electrical equipment environments preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical equipment and custom electro-mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with DC power systems, including Low Voltage and Medium Voltage systems up to 3kV.
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Safety training/certification, including OSHA, current First Aid, and CPR certification.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Office 365.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working independently in complex field environments.
  • Ability to analyze technical requirements and develop clear, accurate solutions.
  • Commissioning experience with DC traction substations is highly advantageous.
Travel & Training
  • Up to 80% domestic travel throughout the United States.
  • Occasional international travel.
  • Must be available for a 4-6 week onboarding/training program at the company's European production facility.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is a field-based position requiring work across customer, industrial, utility, construction, rail, and substation environments.

The Position May Involve
  • Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Working in industrial, utility, rail, construction, and substation environments.
  • Navigating uneven terrain, elevated platforms, confined spaces, and high-noise areas.
  • Standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders/stairs, and working at heights.
  • Handling, positioning, installing, and transporting equipment and components weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Using hand tools, power tools, electrical test equipment, and required PPE.
  • Following electrical safety, lockout/tagout, job hazard analysis, and customer/site safety requirements.
  • Maintaining a high level of situational awareness and safety while working independently in the field.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on electrical commissioning professional who is comfortable spending significant time in the field, troubleshooting electrical equipment, interacting directly with customers, and traveling extensively. Candidates with backgrounds in traction power, rail electrification, DC substations, switchgear, power conversion, electrical equipment manufacturing, utility power distribution, or industrial commissioning are encouraged to apply.
