Johnson Controls Inc. in Amarillo, TX is seeking an Apprentice HVAC Technician to train on mechanical equipment and controls at client sites. The role includes factory certification through the Service Technical Academy (STA) and opportunities for advancement within a union-aligned framework.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of industry experience or servicing HVAC systems.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems.
• Able to follow safety protocols.
• Willingness to join the United Association (UA) union.

Responsibilities

• Apprentices will be trained and will perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
• Participate in certified training through Service Technical Academy to build skill sets for advancement.
• Develop skills to troubleshoot and resolve both technical issues and customer needs.
• Keep JCI, contractors, and the customer advised of job progress and issues as needed.
• Meet attendance requirements for required Union training in the first year.
• Provide recommendations to ensure facility runs efficiently and upsell opportunities.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

How You Will Do It

• Apprentices will be trained and will perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
• Apprentices will participate in certified training through Service Technical Academy that will build skill sets to provide continued opportunities for recognition, monetary rewards and advancement.
• Through coaching and mentorship, apprentices will develop skills to troubleshoot and resolve both technical issues as well as customer needs.
• You will keep JCI, contractors, and the customer advised of job progress and issues as needed.
• You will meet attendance requirements for required Union training for first year.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

What We Look For

• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• 1+ years of industry experience or experience in servicing mechanical systems in the HVAC industry.
• Generally required knowledge includes mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques
• Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Johnson Controls to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
• Leadership skills to support the activities of Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical mechanical HVAC equipment on a job site
• Self-starter with ability to eventually work independently.
• Prioritize safety in all forms.
• This position requires a valid driver’s license.

Preferred

1-2 years of trade school or college in a technical emphasis.

• This is a Bargaining Unit Position.

Pay Range: $20-30 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement.
