Job summary

Johnson Controls Inc in Metairie, LA seeks an Apprentice HVAC Technician to gain hands-on experience on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems at client sites. You will train through the Service Technical Academy and work under coaching to develop troubleshooting and customer-service skills.

This bargaining unit position requires safety focus, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work independently over time.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of industry experience or servicing HVAC systems.
• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry (UA) in the US/Canada, AFL-CIO.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Train and perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls at client sites.
• Participate in Service Technical Academy training to build skills and advancement.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues and customer needs.
• Keep customer and JCI informed of job progress and issues.
• Meet union training attendance requirements in the first year.
• Provide recommendations to improve facility efficiency and upsell where appropriate.
• Prepare quotes to support recommendations.

How you will do it

• Apprentices will be trained and will perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
• Apprentices will participate in certified training through Service Technical Academy that will build skill sets to provide continued opportunities for recognition, monetary rewards and advancement.
• Through coaching and mentorship, apprentices will develop skills to troubleshoot and resolve both technical issues as well as customer needs.
• You will keep JCI, contractors, and the customer advised of job progress and issues as needed.
• You will meet attendance requirements for required Union training for first year.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

What we look for

• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• 1+ years of industry experience or experience in servicing mechanical systems in the HVAC industry.
• Generally required knowledge includes mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques
• Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Johnson Controls to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
• Leadership skills to support the activities of Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical mechanical HVAC equipment on a job site
• Self-starter with ability to eventually work independently.

• Prioritize safety in all forms.
• This position requires a valid driver's license.

Preferred

1-2 years of trade school or college in a technical emphasis.

• This is a Bargaining Unit Position.

Pay Range: $18-$20 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided

through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salary

range reflects the target compensation for this role. However, we recognize that exceptional
