Job summary

Johnson Controls in Irving, TX is seeking an HVAC Journeyman Mechanic for a union role. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems across rooftops, chillers, boilers, and more, while supporting project upgrades and safety standards.

You will travel 10–20% of the time to support customer needs regionally and collaborate with apprentices and other mechanics to ensure top-tier service. Union compensation and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years of commercial/industrial HVAC experience.
• Universal EPA refrigerant certification.
• Valid current driver’s license.
• Proficiency in mechanical alignment and vibration diagnostics.
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers and document service actions.
• Willingness to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices (UA).
• Ability to pass a technical proficiency exam.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing and repairing commercial HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, compressors, pumps, fans, etc.).
• Performing maintenance and replacements on mechanical systems.
• Troubleshooting advanced systems including centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon components.
• Conducting mechanical shaft alignment and vibration analysis.
• Installing complete HVAC systems and supporting infrastructure.
• Providing expert recommendations and quotes for system upgrades and repairs.
• Collaborating with apprentices and other mechanics to share knowledge and ensure top-tier service.
• Traveling 10–20% to support customer needs across the region.
• Prioritizing safety in every task.
