The Planet Group is seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to support commercial facilities in the San Fernando, CA area. This field-based role involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing commercial HVAC and building systems across multiple customer locations.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment and building systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair commercial package units, split systems, boilers, and associated mechanical equipment.
• Inspect, service, repair, and replace HVAC components including compressors, condensers, fans, motors, belts, evaporators, circuit boards and safety controls.
• Test equipment performance and analyze operating conditions to identify potential problems and recommend repairs.
• Understand and troubleshoot commercial HVAC controls and sequences of operation.
• Diagnose airflow and ductwork-related issues.
• Perform basic repairs on steam and hot-water boiler systems.
• Properly handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA requirements.
• Identify and repair refrigerant leaks and perform copper brazing as needed.
• Perform general facility maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting).
• Obtain materials, replacement parts, and supplies; maintain work-orders and service reports.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to support commercial facilities throughout the San Fernando, CA area. This is a field-based position responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, service, and repair of commercial HVAC and building mechanical systems across multiple customer locations.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on experience with package units, split systems, boilers, refrigeration components, electrical troubleshooting, and general building maintenance. This position requires daily local travel between properties, and a company vehicle and tools are provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment and building systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair commercial package units, split systems, boilers, and associated mechanical equipment.
• Inspect, service, repair, and replace HVAC components including:
  
  • Compressors and condensing units
  • Fan and blower motors
  • Belts and pulleys
  • Evaporators
  • Circuit boards and contactors
  • Burners and heat exchangers
  • Safety and operational controls
• Test equipment performance and analyze operating conditions to identify potential problems and recommend repairs.
• Understand and troubleshoot commercial HVAC controls and sequences of operation.
• Diagnose airflow and ductwork-related issues.
• Perform basic repairs on steam and hot‑water boiler systems.
• Properly handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA requirements.
• Identify and repair refrigerant leaks and perform copper brazing as needed.
• Perform general facility maintenance, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, and painting repairs.
• Complete scheduled work orders, preventive maintenance inspections, service reports, and equipment inspections.
• Provide estimates and recommendations for larger repairs or additional services when appropriate.
• Obtain necessary materials, replacement parts, and supplies to complete assigned work.
• Maintain accurate work-order documentation, service notes, inspection reports, time records, and expenses using mobile technology and company systems.
• Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and internal team members regarding service needs and work-order status.
• Follow all applicable OSHA requirements, safety procedures, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
• Travel locally between assigned customer facilities using a company‑provided vehicle.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; HVAC trade school or technical training preferred.
• HVAC trade school – 1 t– contin
• 5+ years of HVAC and/or commercial building maintenance experience preferred.
• Hands‑on experience servicing and troubleshooting commercial or industrial HVAC equipment.
• Experience with package units, split systems, compressors, motors, controls, and refrigeration systems.
• Working knowledge of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read and understand equipment documentation, maintenance instructions, safety procedures, and technical manuals.
• Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, email, Microsoft Office, and electronic work‑order systems.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple service calls and priorities.
• EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification required.
• Valid driver's license in good standing required.
• Ability to travel locally between customer locations on a daily basis.
