Job Summary
Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is looking for an HVAC Technician III to support Facilities Operations & Maintenance (O&M) for its government customer located in NORCO, Califonia. The candidate will provide support for the daily maintenance operations of HVAC requirements across all systems and government property.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily operational checks of all HVAC specialty systems and equipment in the entire building.
- Respond to all HVAC equipment and systems related troubles and alarms.
- Complete all preventative and corrective maintenance related work orders in a timely manner.
- Assist Lead and other technicians servicing and operating all types of residential, commercial, and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, climate‑controlled automation systems, energy management control systems and program control systems.
- Assist Lead and other technicians installing and maintaining a variety of mechanical and electrical components including chillers, ice machines, compressors, motors, heaters, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, evaporators, condensing units, switches, thermostats etc.
- Receive and evaluate work orders and requests.
- Assist the Lead Technician in managing the work of outside contractors to ensure all work meets applicable codes.
- Assist the Lead Technician and other technical personnel in the identification of materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions.
- Respond to emergency site maintenance as required.
- Work with minimal supervision as part of a team of air conditioning, electricians, and maintenance mechanics.
- Assist Lead and other technicians in performing air balancing.
- Assist Lead and other technicians in performing tests, repairs, modifies, calculates, operates, maintains, overhauls, and calibrates small to large units.
- Troubleshoot, install, test, repair, modify, relocate, maintain, and calibrate refrigeration equipment, air conditioning equipment, pneumatics controls and auxiliary equipment such as drinking fountains, exhaust fans, supply fans and smoke purge fans etc.
- Assist Lead and other technicians in interpreting diagrams, drawings, technical manuals, and other instructions for air conditioning equipment, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings and use trade formulas.
- Assist Lead and other technicians in maintaining and troubleshooting a variety of HVAC systems and equipment such as computer room Liebert units, small standalone Heat Pumps and other HVAC equipment.
- Use tools and equipment to include but not limited to measuring tapes, grinders, power tools, cutters, pipe wrenches, volt, amp, ohm meters, thermometers, torches, computers, manometers, airflow measuring equipment, vacuum pumps, and various hand tools.
- Assist the Lead Technician in assuring that work assignments, procedures, sequence, methods, and deadlines are completed on time.
- Perform entry‑level troubleshooting and calibrations on all types of AHU controls and components.
- Must be able to understand and interpret sequences of operations and how they relate to AHU operations and make changes as required.
- Assist Lead and other technicians inspecting and diagnosing problems to determine necessary corrective repairs.
- Keep Lead and other technicians apprised of unique situations and problems encountered.
- Ensure proper housekeeping practices are strictly observed.
- Assist other trades as required to accomplish maintenance activities.
- Complete required monthly safety and equipment training.
- Assist in performing monthly safety inspections as required.
- Inspect and maintain all required PPE daily.
- Respond to and assist in emergency cleanups as necessary.
- Complete all online training as required.
- Other duties as assigned by Lead Technician and Facilities Supervisor/Production Controller.
Environmental Factors
Works in indoor and outdoor environments that contain excessive heat, cold and humidity, excessive dampness, electrical energy, dust, fumes, solvents grease, oils, moving machinery with moving parts, moving object or vehicles and slippery or uneven surfaces.
Physical Effort
Works from ground level, ladders, and platforms on equipment and systems where parts are hard‑to‑reach. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally over fifty pounds. Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and stretching for prolonged periods will be necessary.
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Possess and maintain a “Universal” level or above in CFC refrigerant certification which must always be carried while performing the job.
Required Skills and Experience
- Three (3) years’ experience in the HVAC trade in service and maintenance.
- Experience with various BAS systems and industrial controls and components.
- Experience working on HVAC equipment that utilizes VAV boxes, pneumatic and DDC controls.
- Experience understanding and interpreting sequences of operations for air handling equipment.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel.
- Must be available and able to respond to emergency call‑ins when required.
- Must pass an annual “Fit for Duty” physical and meet all the necessary medical requirements to wear all types of respirators and perform the physical requirements of the job.
- Must pass the required respirator fit test and maintain the requirement.
- Must be physically able to climb all types of ladders, a‑frame, vertical, extension etc.
- Must be physically able to climb up on and maneuver on raised walkways and platforms with limited access.
- Must be able to work in various types of confined spaces.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Five (5) years of industrial and commercial experience working within the HVAC trades.
- Experience working in and around laboratory environments, fume hoods, lab benches etc.
Citizenship & Security Clearance
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
