Job summary

Texas State University seeks an HVAC Technician II to join Facilities Services in San Marcos, TX. The role installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs HVAC/R systems across campus buildings, labs, residence halls, and athletic facilities.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, technical HVAC training or 3 years field experience, EPA 608 certification, and ability to read technical manuals. On-call after hours is required on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school training or 3 years HVAC employment/field experience.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC controls, electrical systems, and refrigeration principles.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control-related equipment issues.
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions and maintenance procedures.
  • On-call after-hours work, rotating with other shop personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues involving chillers, boilers, pumps, air handlers, VAV systems, BAS.
  • Install, replace, and repair HVAC equipment, motors, controls, thermostats, and related components.
  • Monitor and adjust building environmental systems to maintain occupant comfort and efficiency.
  • Respond to service requests and emergency maintenance calls in a timely manner.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Assist with campus energy conservation initiatives and sustainability programs.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and university policies.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Services personnel, contractors, and campus stakeholders.
