Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking an HVAC technician to plan, coordinate, supervise and administer a facility heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance program. You will oversee emergency and preventive maintenance, participate in on-call rotations, and supervise inmate work crews.

Successful candidates will have a high school diploma and HVAC experience, plus EPA 608 certification, as required, with four weeks of SCDC Basic Training to be

• EPA 608 Type II or universal certification required or to be obtained within 6 months.
• Ability to supervise and instruct others, including inmate work crews.

Job Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, supervise and administer a facility heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance/repair program.
• Responsible for program development and supervision of emergency and preventive maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
• Must participate in on-call rotation.
• Responsible for supervision of inmate work crew.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma and experience in the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems or in the operation and maintenance of HVAC mechanical and building control systems. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• A high school diploma and experience in the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems or in the operation and maintenance of HVAC mechanical and building control systems.
• Must possess EPA 608 type II or universal certification or obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Must be able to supervise, direct, instruct and work with other people.
